Pap Smear Precautions

Please follow these important precautions before you have a Pap smear:

Your annual exam appointment should be scheduled at mid-cycle (midway between two periods) if possible. In order to obtain a satisfactory Pap smear specimen, you should have no bleeding and no vaginal infections. You should not have sex, use tampons or any vaginal lubricants or creams for three days prior to your appointment.

If you do not follow these precautions, you may cause an unsatisfactory Pap smear which will require repeating and result in an additional office visit (co-pay expense for you) as well as additional lab fees that may not be covered by your insurance company.

If you have any questions, please speak to one of our Medical Assistants before your appointment.
